Chronology of the First Year

Reflecting on their first year, freshman students often report that possessing a basic understanding of how the academic schedule works provides a solid foundation for a successful transition to life in the classroom. To that end, the FDO encourages incoming students to familiarize themselves with information that is broken down by season or semester, beginning with items for the summer prior to college.

Because Opening Days is rich with helpful information on a range of topics, it would also help to review some of the information for the fall during the summer prior to arrival, especially information on check-in, course selection, and sectioning. Spring term is largely a repetition of the fall, except that students spend a considerable amount of time (two weeks) engaging with academic departments about concentration selection.
