The FDO is proud to announce our annual awards, which will recognize five first-year students for their unique contributions to the first-year experience.
The Deans’ Award is given to the first-year student who most exemplifies the ideals of the Freshman Deans. Eligible students are ones who demonstrate their dedication to their classmates and to Harvard by actively working to make the first-year experience an enriching one for the entire freshman class, and by demonstrating kindness, integrity, resilience to setbacks, a strong sense of purpose, and respect toward others.
The Community Creation Award is given to a first-year student who shows unwavering dedication to building a stronger, more compassionate, and more inclusive first-year community through contributions they make to the academic and/or residential experience of the freshman class. Eligible students are ones whose actions champion the rich diversity of the class.
The Creativity Award is given to a first-year student who shows unusual talent, commitment to exploration, or promise in drama, drawing, dancing, film, photography, music, painting, sculpture, writing, or in other artistic media. Eligible students are ones whose actions reflect the vibrancy of the class through sharing their enthusiasm for the arts and creativity.
The Civic Engagement Award is given to a first-year student who, through service they perform, fosters a spirit of interdependence, and through their actions, encourages others to engage in their own acts of mentorship and service. Eligible students are ones who serve their classmates, or the wider community, through engaged activism.
The Veritas Award recognizes a first-year student who demonstrates an exceptional commitment to the College’s mission to provide students with an intellectually transformative experience. Eligible students are ones who evince exceptional intellectual curiosity in their academic and extracurricular activities, those who are intrinsically motivated by a love of ideas, and who help promote the flourishing of vibrant and inspirational intellectual communities at Harvard.
