The First-Year Experience Office will host a small, private dinner at the Harvard Faculty Club on Tuesday, September 18, at 6:00 pm, at which a select group of 12 first-year students will have a chance to dine with Tom Dingman '67, former Dean of Freshmen at Harvard. Mr. Dingman will share his thoughts on the state of higher education and navigating the first year at Harvard. Tom Dingman is the former Dean of Freshmen at Harvard College. His career at Harvard spans 45 years, where he has worked in various administrative positions. As a former resident of Grays Hall and Eliot House, Mr. Dingman graduated from the College in 1967. After teaching for several years at Phillips Academy-Andover, he returned to Harvard to obtain his Master's degree from the Graduate School of Education. In his various roles at the University, Mr. Dingman has served as a senior tutor in Leverett and Dudley Houses, Interim Dean of Student Life and from 2004-2018, Dean of Freshmen. Over the course of his career as Dean of Freshmen, Mr. Dingman focused on cultivating an accessible first-year experience by developing initiatives on social programming and academic support.
This Faculty Club dinner is part of the FYE’s Uncommon Fare program, designed to give first-year students a chance to meet outstanding members of the Harvard community, to meet one another, and to see what is truly special about the College, all made possible by a generous gift.
