Winter Break Reminders

Dear Members of the Class of 2022

As the year draws to a close, I would like to call your attention to Winter Recess closing, dining, and transportation information.

Dorm Winter Recess Checklist
  • To avoid possible pest control issues, take out all trash, recycling, and compost
  • Close and lock all windows completely
  • Seal food in containers to avoid possible pest control issues
  • Turn off alarm clocks and lights, and unplug appliances
  • Report any maintenance issues – either in your suite, room, or common spaces
  • Collect clothing from laundry rooms; items remaining will be donated to charity on Wednesday, January 2nd.
  • Empty common room refrigerators or label items within; all fridges will be cleaned on Wednesday, January 2nd.
Winter Recess Closures
  • Dorms will close and card access suspended at 3:00pm on Friday, December 21st.
  • Yard Operations staff will begin performing suite inspections shortly after dorms close.
  • Dorms will reopen and card access will be restored at 9:00 am Friday, January 18, unless granted an earlier return.

Dining Hours and Meal Times
  • Annenberg Dining Hall is scheduled to close after dinner on December 19th. First-year students remaining on campus will have access to inter-house locations for meals on December 20th.
  • For specific opening and closing information for the Houses and FlyBy, please visit the HUDS website.
  • Bag meals are available until December 20th, but can only be ordered from open locations.
Shuttle Services
  • Shuttles and vans will run on a revised schedule from December 21st to January 17th.
  • Full Academic Service will resume on Friday, January 18th.
  • The Harvard Yard Mail Center will be closed on Monday, December 24th, Tuesday, December 25th; and Tuesday, January 1st for the university holidays. 
  • All other days, the Harvard Yard Mail Center will be open during regular hours.
