Harvard College lies at the heart of a world-class research University. Students, therefore, have access to and spend time learning from some of the best faculty in their respective fields. The Harvard College education is based in the liberal arts; thus students can expect to engage with a broad range of topics that come to bear on real world issues. And students also spend a considerable portion of their time at Harvard focusing in one or two fields of study, preparing to make a difference in the world around them.
Welcome, then, to Harvard! The Dean of Students Office invites new and incoming students to review academic information to gain an understanding of how to make a smooth and successful transition to life in the Harvard classroom. And, in particular, students are encouraged to review the chronology of the first year to better appreciate the shape of the academic year, including its rhythm and how things work.
