James Garavito '22
Hello FYRE family! My name is James (hah-mess) Garavito. I am a sophomore living in Mather House intending to concentrate in neuroscience with (maybe!) a secondary in visual and environmental studies. My parents are from Armenia, Colombia (hence why you’ll often hear me talking about arepas and tintos) and raised me in the small and beautiful town of Dover, New Jersey. During my first year, I was involved with Act on a Dream, Latinos in Health Careers, and Y2Y. As a first generation, low-income student, I am passionate about creating community and discussing the obstacles that people like me face at institutions of higher education. I live my life wishing to show kindness and love to the world, knowing that in these times, love is an act of defiance. I listen to artists such as Lady Gaga, Kali Uchis, Jorja Smith, LORDE, Mitski, and many others (always looking to explore new music!). You can probably catch me taking pictures of random things that catch my eye as I love photography and keeping a photo journal. If you have any questions about what it is like to be FGLI, queer, Latinx, a Harvard student or any other questions in general, feel free to ask me!
