Madeleine Currie, Ed.D.
Dean Currie works with students in Canaday and Thayer dorms. She first came to Cambridge to complete an Ed.D. in human development and psychology at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and had a wonderful time working with students as a freshman proctor for seven years. She received a B.A. in comparative literature from the University of Chicago, and later taught junior high and high school students before coming to graduate school. She has traveled to various parts of the world, including Europe, Africa, and the UK, but loves coming home to Harvard Square. Before joining the Freshman Dean’s Office in 2013, she did research on youth mental health, including studies of orphan care programs in Sub-Saharan Africa, the role of family and community systems in supporting the development and mental health of immigrant and refugee youth, and the role of depression in the transition to adulthood. She loves photography, cooking (especially baking!), hiking, the outdoors, basketball, live music, and especially working with students.
