Nekesa Straker

Senior Assistant Dean of Residential Life and First-Year Students
Nekesa

I am responsible for leading the First-Year Experience (FYE) office, which includes managing the Resident Deans of First-Year Students, overseeing residential life initiatives to help orient and support the incoming class, and coordinating housing assignments for first-year students. I also train the residential staff, partner with the Student Engagement team to plan and implement pre-orientation programs and Convocation, support advising programs within the Office of Undergraduate Education, and serve as a member of the Administrative Board.

I have been at Harvard since June 2019 and prior to that I was the director of residential education at Boston College for four years. I've also worked at DePaul University in Chicago, New York University in New York, and The Bush School in Seattle. I graduated with my masters in student development administration from Seattle University and a bachelors in political science from Vassar College. I am a proud Brearley School graduate and Prep for Prep alumnae, representing contingent XIII!

Spare time is a luxury as I am currently in a doctorate program at Regis College in higher education leadership. When I do have time, I enjoy international travel, watching popular TV shows, being on the board of my summer camp (the Aloha Foundation), and cooking with a focus on altering meals to make them vegan or healthier.
